At least 8 killed and 24 injured after a car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station. Police, NIA, and NSG teams on site as probe begins.

🚨 Tragedy Strikes Near Red Fort: What Happened
New Delhi was rocked by a horrifying car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, leaving at least eight people dead and 24 injured. The blast, which occurred around 6:52 PM, triggered a massive fire that engulfed several nearby vehicles and caused widespread panic in the area.
The incident took place near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station — a crowded and historically significant area often bustling with locals and tourists alike.
According to officials, the blast was powerful enough to damage three to four nearby vehicles, while debris and flames lit up the evening sky.
“At around 6.52 pm, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle, and nearby vehicles were also damaged,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha. “All agencies — FSL, NIA, NSG — are on the scene, and the situation is under control.”
🔥 Firefighters, NIA, NSG, and Delhi Police on the Ground
Within minutes of the blast, seven fire tenders rushed to the site to control the blaze. The fire was eventually brought under control by 7:29 PM, confirmed Deputy Chief Fire Officer A.K. Malik.
“We got information about a car blast near Chandni Chowk Metro Station. Seven units were dispatched, and the fire was contained within half an hour. There are casualties,” Malik said.
Teams from the National Security Guard (NSG), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have joined the investigation.
The Delhi Police Special Cell has also cordoned off the area, with sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads conducting searches for any secondary explosives.
🏥 Casualties & Hospital Updates
According to officials from Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, eight victims were declared dead on arrival, while 24 others were brought in with serious burn injuries and trauma.
“Eight of them died before reaching the hospital. Three are critically injured, while one is in stable condition,” said the Medical Superintendent of LNJP Hospital.
Emergency wards at LNJP and nearby facilities have been placed on alert, and doctors are treating victims for burns, fractures, and shrapnel injuries.
😢 Eyewitness Accounts: “It Felt Like We Were All Going to Die”
The blast left locals in shock and horror. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and devastation, with flames leaping high into the air and people running in panic.
“I saw the flames from my house and rushed outside. There was a loud explosion — louder than anything I’ve ever heard,” said Rajdhar Pandey, a local resident.
A nearby shopkeeper added,
“I fell three times due to the impact. It felt as if we were all going to die. Body parts were lying on the road… It was horrific.”
Another witness described seeing burnt vehicles and human remains scattered across the road.
“When we reached, there were car parts and body parts everywhere. It was shocking — something I’ll never forget,” he said.
🚓 National Security on High Alert
Following the explosion, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra have been placed on high alert.
In Uttar Pradesh, ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash said all district police units have been directed to tighten security around religious sites, metro stations, and border areas.
“The DGP has instructed all senior officials to increase patrols and checks in sensitive districts,” Yash said.
Similarly, Maharashtra Police issued a red alert, increasing security at airports, railway stations, and crowded public spaces, especially in Mumbai and Pune.
