New Delhi: Alleging a deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday called on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to advise Union Home Minister Amit Shah on dealing with gangsters.
Kejriwal’s remarks came during a press conference where he accused the Union Home Minister of prioritizing political agendas over public welfare. Since Delhi’s police force operates under the Union Home Ministry, Kejriwal placed the responsibility for the city’s safety directly on Shah.
Kejriwal’s Comments on Delhi Law and Order
“Yogi Ji claims he has eliminated all gangsters in Uttar Pradesh. If this is true, he should sit with Amit Shah and guide him on how to eliminate gangster rule in Delhi,” Kejriwal said.
He also accused Shah of focusing on political maneuvers, such as “buying MLAs, toppling governments, and breaking political parties,” instead of addressing the capital’s law and order challenges.
Yogi Adityanath’s Allegations Against AAP
Addressing a public meeting in Karol Bagh on Thursday, Yogi Adityanath alleged that AAP had allowed Bangladeshi infiltrators to settle on land owned by Uttar Pradesh’s irrigation department near Jamia Nagar. He claimed bulldozers from Uttar Pradesh were sent to remove them and secure the area.
Kejriwal dismissed Yogi’s claims, stating that the UP CM had criticized Delhi’s law enforcement while claiming he had eradicated gangsters in his state.
BJP’s Response
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva countered Kejriwal’s allegations, urging him to address issues within his own party. Sachdeva claimed that AAP leaders and workers had tarnished Delhi’s image through various controversies, including:
- Alleged goondaism by AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and his son
- Arrests of AAP leaders under serious charges, including MCOCA
- Incidents like the assault on a woman MP at Kejriwal’s residence
- Waterlogging deaths in Delhi
- The liquor scam, polluted Yamuna, and air pollution
“The people of Delhi demand answers from Kejriwal, but we know he will not respond,” Sachdeva added.
Law and Order as a Poll Issue
With upcoming Delhi elections, AAP has made law and order a central campaign issue, frequently criticizing Amit Shah and the BJP-led central government for inadequate policing in the city. Kejriwal emphasized that ensuring public safety requires dedicated attention, which he claims Shah has failed to provide.
