Muharram, which marks the start of the Islamic Hijri New Year, began in India on Friday, June 27, 2025, after the crescent moon was sighted on June 26. According to the Masjid-e-Nakhoda Markazi Rooyat-e-Hilal Committee, this set the calendar for the month of Muharram in India.

The 10th day of Muharram, known as Ashura, will be observed on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Ashura is a day of deep mourning for Muslims worldwide, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala. The day symbolizes sacrifice, steadfastness, and the pursuit of justice.

Ashura on July 6 is a gazetted holiday in India. Therefore:
✅ All government offices,
✅ Schools and colleges,
✅ Banks,
✅ Stock exchanges including BSE and NSE,
will remain closed.
