Abhay Singh, an aerospace engineer-turned-sanyasi popularly known as ‘IITian Baba’, was expelled from the Juna Akhada late Saturday night. The decision came after allegations of him using abusive language against his guru, Mahant Someshwar Puri, violating the sacred guru-shishya tradition upheld by the Akhada.
Reasons Behind the Expulsion
The Juna Akhada, one of the largest and oldest religious organizations in India, issued an official order banning Abhay Singh from entering its camp and premises. Senior Akhada members emphasized that discipline and respect for one’s guru are the cornerstones of sanyas. “Such behavior cannot be tolerated,” stated Mahant Hari Giri, the chief patron of the Juna Akhada.
Abhay Singh gained popularity during the ongoing Mahakumbh for blending scientific principles with spiritual teachings, attracting significant public attention. However, his growing recognition reportedly created tensions with his guru, leading to his eventual expulsion.
Abhay Singh’s Response
In a video statement, Singh denied the allegations, claiming he was wrongfully accused and driven out of the Akhada camp. He alleged that his guru resented his rising public popularity. Singh also revealed that he had severed ties with his parents, having blocked their contact long ago.

Previous Expulsion from Juna Akhada
This incident marks the second expulsion from the Juna Akhada during the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025. Earlier, on January 11, Rakhi Singh, a 13-year-old girl from Agra, and her guru, Mahant Kaushal Giri, were expelled for violating Akhada regulations. The case led to the introduction of a minimum age limit of 22 years for women seeking sanyas in the Juna Akhada.
Discipline in Juna Akhada
Mahant Hari Giri reiterated that discipline is paramount within the Akhada. “No one is above the rules,” he emphasized, adding that speaking ill of a fellow sadhu or guru is strictly prohibited and was a major reason behind Abhay Singh’s removal.
