Punjab Police have withdrawn their personnel from the security detail of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, while his Z-Plus security cover remains intact. The move comes just weeks before the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, raising concerns over Kejriwal’s safety amid reports of threats and a recent attack on his campaign.

Decision by Punjab Police
Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, confirmed the withdrawal, stating the decision was made following directives from the Delhi Police and the Election Commission. “We will continue sharing intelligence inputs with the Delhi Police to ensure Mr. Kejriwal’s safety,” Yadav said.
The withdrawal comes as intelligence agencies warn of a potential attack on Kejriwal, allegedly by pro-Khalistan operatives.
Kejriwal Alleges Political Conspiracy
Reacting to the decision, Kejriwal alleged political motives behind the security changes. Referring to a recent attack, he said, “Today in Hari Nagar, opposition candidates’ men attacked my car during a public meeting. This is being done on Amit Shah’s orders. The Delhi Police has become the BJP’s personal army.”
He further criticized the Election Commission, questioning its inability to act effectively despite multiple threats and attacks on him.
Recent Security Concerns
The security situation surrounding Kejriwal has been tense:
- Stone-Throwing Incident: On Saturday, AAP released a video alleging BJP supporters attacked Kejriwal’s car with stones.
- Intelligence Alerts: Agencies have flagged threats from pro-Khalistan groups targeting Kejriwal amidst his election campaign.
Delhi Assembly Elections
The heightened political tensions coincide with the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, with results to be declared on February 8. Kejriwal and AAP are campaigning heavily against BJP candidates, including Parvesh Verma, who has been accused of involvement in the recent attack.
